We recognize the importance of environmental sustainability and how a healthy planet is essential for animals and people to thrive. Our innovations deliver insights and solutions that support longer, fuller lives for pets, always with an eye on improving efficiency for our customers. We make access to clean water a reality for millions of people globally, and our livestock diagnostics help to monitor the health of herd and flock animals. We are dedicated to building and sustaining a collaborative, ethical culture that values diversity, equity, and inclusion—respecting people and the communities where we live and work.

Driven by science, we are accelerating our approach to environmental sustainability through innovation and continuous improvement to take climate action and reduce our impact.

Environmental sustainability

We recognize that addressing climate change is vital to achieving a healthy, sustainable future for all. By driving innovation, taking climate action, and reducing our impact, we are demonstrating our commitment to environmental sustainability to:

  • Reduce our operational greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions (Scope 1 and 2).
  • Advance our understanding of Scope 3 GHG emissions.
  • Implement energy efficiency improvements and increase our use of renewable energy.
  • Increase sustainable waste disposal and reduce our water footprint.
  • Advance sustainable building designs and create healthy workplaces for our employees.
  • Integrate principles of circular economy into product design and stewardship.
  • Innovate sustainable solutions for packaging.

Environmental sustainability

Goals and commitments

Reduce our operational GHG emissions (Scope 1 and 2) by 37.8% by 2030 1

Source 100% renewable electricity by 2030

Community

Through our global solutions-oriented approach to social initiatives and community engagement, we are committed to creating a positive and lasting impact for people, animals, and the environment. Our areas of focus include:

  • Create opportunities for the diverse leaders of tomorrow, including advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in veterinary medicine and STEM education and expanding access to mental health and well-being support.
  • Expand care for our companions, including veterinary care for underserved communities, and support at-risk animals and animal assisted therapy.
  • Foster access to clean water, climate adaptation, and food sustainability solutions.
  • Provide disaster and emergency response, including support for animals and people impacted by extreme climate events.
  • Support employee volunteering and local community involvement efforts.

Community

Goals and commitments

Increase annual global employee volunteering to 15,000 hours by 2025

Expand access to care for more than 500,000 animals in underserved communities by 2025 though our global social initiatives 7

Expand access to mental health and well-being support for veterinary students and veterinary professionals around the world though our global social initiatives 7


Notes
  1. Emissions target is based on 2021 data as baseline. Target aligned with the United Nations Paris Agreement’s goal of limiting warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius.
  2. Completed an initial Scope 3 screening and plan to work with suppliers and logistics partners to gather a more complete picture of value chain emissions and opportunities to reduce our impact.
  3. Gender balance refers to the equitable representation of women and men between the range of 45% and 55%.
  4. Employees in people leadership roles (all levels).
  5. Based on self-identification by our U.S. employees. The term "underrepresented groups" is defined as Black/African American, Asian, Hispanic/Latinx, American Indian, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian/Other Pacific Islander, and two or more races, as well as other underrepresented and/or vulnerable groups.
